Choosing a wedding videographer in London and the South

There are many things to look for in a wedding videographer but the most important is experience. Wedding videos are a specialist product and you need someone with a professional approach.

What to look for when you're choosing a wedding videographer

The videographer must get on with people and put them at ease. He or she should be able to blend into the background and work without upsetting the celebrant or other wedding professionals.

A videographer with a pleasant manner and a quiet sense of humour can help your day run smoothly, at the same time creating a DVD which will be a priceless permanent record of your wedding day.

Ask your wedding videographer to show you a demo

It's important you ask a videographer to show or send you a demo before you book. Ideally you should see a range of work, but it's important to watch an entire DVD from beginning to end.

You want to know you'll get great coverage not just get a few nice shots here and there.

You'll also find it reassuring to read good references from previous customers.

Getting technical with your wedding videographer

We come from a video background ourselves and have received excellent training and wide experience during our careers at the BBC. We've also worked with wedding videographers with a range of experience and expertise. There are some we recommend more highly than others.

Here are some questions we would want to ask a wedding videographer if we were choosing one ourselves:

  • how many cameras do you used? A single camera won't capturing everything properly and safely. Two cameras give you better shots and you're less likely to miss something important.
  • What titles, captions and music will be included?
  • Will the DVD have a title menu?

Good reasons for booking a wedding videographer

If you've chosen the right professionals, a skilled videgrapher working alongside a talented photographer will give you complete coverage of your day. Choose the best you can afford and if necessary, trim your budget on costs for things which won't live as long as the your photography and video.

It's a decision you won't regret. Bear in mind that a DVD will

  • capture the sound of your ceremony and speeches
  • allow your guests to participate by adding their congratulations and memories of your pre-married life
  • show off your dance floor skills and capture the festive spirit as the party really gets going

Your budget for wedding videography

Making good wedding videos is an expensive business and professionals need to charge a reasonably substantial amount to make a living. Like first class still photography, good DVDs require several days of skilled labour with expensive equipment.

Beware of cheap quotes. You get what you pay for.
